Kristina Girke has been living and working in Berlin for over 30 years. Currently she is living in Canada. Letting go seems to be an eternally important process. As in real life, Kristina does excercise in letting go as well in life as in her new paintings. Shapes, figures, letters as well as cracks or broken surfaces – all this is no longer needed. There is just color. Pure element, the essence – how difficult it is to find that without being stuck in perfectionism. This is perhaps a life-long exercise?

It is also what connects the two groups of works – what makes Kristina Girke’s painting so special: the layering of thin transparent colors. that create depth within itselves. It is like a collection of experiences in the course of life through ups and downs. And in the best case they are connected with each other in an interaction of primal elements and growing together in a healing way. The pictures give a powerful, radiant and peaceful testimony of experiences, which hopefully can unfold its full power in the unspoken, in the depth of color and in the sound of a coincidence in a painting.
